Sec. 1 Express and Normal Academic Project: KEY TAG
Shown below are some design ideas for the Key Tag you are going to make. Do not copy the designs shown here. Design your own Key Tag. Make it unique. Make it your design. Use the design ideas below as a guide.
Notice that the designs are simple and easy to make and that the corners of each of the designs are all rounded off. Avoid sharp or pointed corners. Cut out your designs using vanguard sheets or drawing papers to see exactly what your designs would look like and then choose the one that is most suitable. You should bear in mind that your chosen design should be within your capability to make. The characteristics of the material should also be given due consideration. For example, acrylic then to break easily but is easy to cut whereas brass is much more difficult to saw to shape. The safety aspect of your design is very importance. Any product that is not safe to use is not a good or suitable design.
Make full use of the size of the material you are going to use. A key tag should be of a suitable size and should be neither too big nor too small.

PROBLEM SOLVING:
Problem solving is an everyday activity. It is something we all do even though we may not be aware that we are doing it. We are problem solving whenever we think about what to do about a difficult situation. Thus, when we consider what to do when a light bulb blows, or what to wear for a picnic or what present to buy Mother for her birthday, we are engaged in problem solving.
Very often, when faced with a problem, we tend not to think hard about it or act on the first solution that comes to our mind. When we do this, we sometimes create more problems for ourselves and others. The creative way to problem solving is to think through the problem, consider all possible solutions and then select the best solution.
In Design & Technology, you will learn how to solve Design Problems i.e. problems created by existing situations like those mentioned in the first few pages of your workbook. The process of solving Design Problems is similar to that for problem solving.
You first study the problem created by the situation. Then you think of as many possible solutions as you can. After carefully considering all the possible solutions you then select the one that will solve the problem most effectively.
